Job Summary
The Automotive Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on a wide range of vehicles. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing high-quality service. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in automotive repair, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work efficiently under minimal supervision.

Duties And Responsibilities
Vehicle Diagnosis and Repair:
Perform thorough inspections and diagnostics to identify mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues in vehicles.
Repair and replace faulty parts, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and other vehicle systems.
Utilize diagnostic tools and software to accurately assess and troubleshoot vehicle issues.
Ensure all repairs are completed to manufacturer and industry standards, maintaining the highest quality of work.

Preventative Maintenance:
  • Conduct routine maintenance services such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake checks, and fluid level inspections.
  • Advise customers on necessary maintenance to prevent future issues and prolong the life of their vehicles.
  • Perform vehicle inspections as part of scheduled maintenance or pre-delivery services.

Customer Service:
  • Communicate effectively with customers to explain the diagnosis, repair options, and estimated costs.
  • Provide clear and accurate information on the work performed and any additional maintenance recommendations.
  • Build trust with customers by delivering excellent service and ensuring their satisfaction with the repairs.

Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of all work performed, including parts used, labor time, and services provided.
  • Prepare detailed service reports and update vehicle maintenance logs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards in all repair and maintenance activities.

Tools and Equipment Management:
  • Maintain and properly use a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are in good working condition and report any issues to the Service Manager.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe at all times.

Team Collaboration:
  • Work closely with other technicians, service advisors, and parts specialists to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Assist in training junior technicians or apprentices, sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Participate in ongoing training to stay current with the latest automotive technology and repair techniques.

Education Other Skills Required
  • Technical certification or an associate degree in automotive technology is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience as an automotive technician or mechanic, preferably in a dealership or repair shop setting.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive systems and components.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and automotive repair software.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and repair instructions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers and team members.
  • Dependable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • A commitment to safety and quality in all aspects of work.
