Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to oversee the maintenance and repair operations of a fleet of approximately 100 trucks within our logistics business. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in vehicle maintenance, fleet management, and familiarity with tracking systems. This role is critical in ensuring the fleet operates efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively while meeting operational demands.
Duties And Responsibilities
Plan, schedule, and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance for all trucks.
Ensure all vehicles comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Monitor and manage workshop operations to minimize downtime and optimize productivity.
Utilize tracking systems to monitor fleet performance, identify inefficiencies, and resolve issues promptly.
Analyze telematics data to improve vehicle utilization and maintenance schedules.
Ensure tracking systems are properly maintained and used to their full potential.
Manage a team of mechanics, technicians, and support staff, ensuring effective allocation of tasks.
Recruit, train, and develop workshop personnel to maintain high standards of performance.
Foster a safe, collaborative, and results-oriented work environment.
Maintain adequate stock levels of spare parts and tools for timely repairs and maintenance.
Establish relationships with suppliers to ensure cost-effective procurement.
Monitor inventory usage and control costs through efficient management.
Manage workshop budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations without compromising quality.
Track maintenance and repair costs, preparing reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Ensure adherence to maintenance schedules to avoid excessive downtime and breakdowns.
Implement and enforce safety protocols for workshop operations.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, legal requirements, and company policies.
Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify and mitigate risks.
Education Other Skills Required
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Logistics, or a related field.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in workshop management, preferably in the logistics or transport industry.
Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and repair processes for heavy trucks.
Experience with fleet tracking systems and telematics software.
Proven leadership and team management skills.
Proficiency in using maintenance management and inventory control systems.
Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
