Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Transport Officer to oversee our transportation department's daily operations. The ideal candidate will ensure efficient fleet management, compliance with safety standards, and optimal route planning.
Duties And Responsibilities
Oversee daily operations of the transportation department, ensuring efficient fleet management.
Plan and schedule transport routes, ensuring timely deliveries and optimal fuel usage.
Manage vehicle maintenance and safety compliance, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
Supervise and train transport staff (drivers, coordinators) to ensure high operational standards.
Ensure all transportation records and logs are maintained accurately for audits and compliance.
Address customer concerns regarding transportation services and resolve issues promptly.
Track vehicle movements using GPS tracking devices and ensure no safety or route violation/deviation.
Coordinate with GPS and other relevant fleet service providers to resolve all issues and maintain the highest customer standards.
Prepare yearly, monthly, weekly, and daily logistic plans to meet customer requirements.
Prepare and report performance of the fleet daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly and suggest improvements.
Education Other Skills Required
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Transportation Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
At least 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in fleet management or transport operations in Tanzania.
Strong understanding of Tanzanian transport laws, regulations, and road safety standards.
Familiarity with vehicle registration, licensing, and regulatory processes in Tanzania.
Knowledge of GPS tracking systems and transport management software.
Experience working with Tanzanian local and regional supply chains and logistics.
Fluency in both Kiswahili and English, with excellent communication skills in both languages.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and fleet management tools.
Valid Tanzanian driving license (preferably Class D or E) and good knowledge of road networks across the country.
Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage diverse teams.
Proven ability to manage budgets and prepare financial reports related to fleet operations.
Experience dealing with customs and border clearance for regional transportation.
Certifications in logistics, transport management, or safety (e.g., CILT certification).
