Job Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented and innovative GIS Officer to support our conservation initiatives by managing spatial data, conducting geospatial analysis, and developing mapping solutions. The ideal candidate will play a key role in using GIS technologies to enhance environmental research, resource management, and conservation planning.
Duties And Responsibilities
Collect, process, analyze, and maintain spatial datasets to support conservation projects and decision-making.
Develop high-quality maps, spatial models, and data visualizations for research reports, environmental assessments, and stakeholder engagement.
Utilize satellite imagery, aerial photography, and GIS software to assess land use, habitat changes, and environmental trends.
Support field teams in deploying GPS tools, mobile data collection applications, and spatial survey methods.
Manage GIS platforms, spatial databases, and related tools to ensure data accuracy and accessibility.
Provide guidance and training to conservation teams on GIS applications, data management, and spatial analysis techniques.
Work closely with researchers, ecologists, policymakers, and community groups to integrate geospatial insights into conservation strategies.
Explore and implement new GIS technologies, AI-driven spatial analysis, and drone-based mapping solutions to enhance conservation efforts.
Education Other Skills Required
Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Science, Geospatial Science, Cartography, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in GIS applications, preferably in conservation, natural resource management, or environmental research.
Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine) and remote sensing tools.
Strong understanding of spatial data processing, geostatistics, and mapping techniques.
Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL for spatial analysis is an advantage.
Ability to interpret ecological and environmental data for decision-making.
Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to conservation challenges.
Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex geospatial insights to diverse audiences.
Experience in ecological modeling and biodiversity mapping.
Familiarity with drone mapping and UAV data processing.
Knowledge of GIS-based participatory mapping for community conservation projects.
